Since the study of the natural world began people have understood the importance of Nature recording.
If we don't know what is there we don't know what to conserve and we don't know how an environment is changing.
All environmental work and all planning and development work is underpinned with the records that are kepy by local and national records centres. We strongly encourage people to learn how to do this and to learn how to submit records to these places
To help people (especially young people) we have created 2 worksheets that can be used to begin this at an early age
For the very young there is this worksheet Nature Walk Primer
For those starting to learn and with a bit more structure there is a Starter diary pack (this works printed A4, but may be best printed A5 booklet format) Nature Diary Starter
For those wanting to do this and directly interact with professional systems we highly recommend reading This from SEWBReC and
either using the SEWBReCord system or downloading the LERC Wales App
